Since 1881, Louis Sherry has shared the French chocolate-making tradition with New Yorkers, and over 100 years later, their chocolates are presented in a traditional tin recast from the original 19th-century box. This 12-piece tin made exclusively for The Met showcases a detail from The Unicorn Rests in a Garden (1495–1505), an iconic French and South Netherlandish textile at The Met Cloisters. The medieval masterwork depicts a unicorn resting in a garden enclosure beneath a pomegranate tree, enveloped by a millefleurs backdrop of richly symbolic plants.
