This exquisite tempera-and-gold painting from The Met collection was crafted around 142030 by Master G. Z. (possibly Michele dai Carri) (Italian, active by 14051441). The sculptural quality of the figures and the Madonna’s magnificent throne are both details owed to the artist’s study of work by the sculptor Jacopo della Quercia (Jacopo di Pietro d’Angelo di Guarnieri) (Italian, 1374?1438).
